Kalen

Kalen, Head of Quantitative Analysis at Novi Research brings extensive expertise in statistics and experimental design. With a background in lab and field sciences, he holds a B.S. in Biology from Western Washington University and an M.S. in Biology from Sacramento State University. As an undergraduate, Kalen studied desert ecology and reptile physiology, conducting in-field respirometry and kinetic analysis of lizard locomotion. His master’s thesis utilized fluorometric determination of soil enzyme activity to assess the effects of prescribed fire, mechanical thinning, and their combination on forest soils.
When not in the office, Kalen spends his winters skiing and volunteering with the Eldorado Backcountry Ski Patrol, maintaining trails and supporting access to backcountry huts. In the summer, he can be found stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) on the American River, staying cool while taking in the spectacular scenery. Whether in the field, the lab, or the backcountry, Kalen’s analytical mindset and passion for exploration drive his approach to problem-solving and research.
